Join Anishinaabe cultural worker and Flicker Exchange co-founder Hadassah Greensky (LTBB Odawa) as we process last year’s corn harvest into nixtamal through a process simply called nixtamalization. This version of nixtamalization is a natural alkaline treatment process by which Eastern Woodland tribes have made corn edible and produced hominy for thousands of years.

The workshop will conclude with a sampling of the corn in the form of a traditional corn soup prepared by the Noojimo’waning staff!

Feel free to contact Hadassah if you would like to process your own corn ahead of time – the corn processed in the workshop will be kept for use in Flicker Exchange’s future community programming.

Admission to the workshop is on a sliding scale, funds will be used to help support Anishinaabe Land Back in Detroit:

• $5 Queer or Trans Black/Indigenous people (or Black and Indigenous people with low income) 

• $10 Straight/Cis-gendered Black/Indigenous people (or QT B/I with money)

• $15 and up everyone else
