Come join Anishinaabe Detroiter and Flicker Exchange co-founder Hadassah Greensky (LTBB Odawa) around the fire at Arboretum Detroit’s Circle Forest on Palmer for the second installment of The Sacred Spirit of the Story. In Anishinaabe culture, storytelling is an important part of relating to each other and the surrounding world through lessons of balance. This event will recount traditional stories and contextualize them in a broader historical framework based in the Anishinaabe oral history tradition. 

The Anishinaabe are the people of The Three Fires, the Odawa, Bodewadmi and Ojibwe. They have lived here for thousands of years before the colonizers ever set foot on this land where so called Detroit exists today. Here’s an opportunity to educate ourselves on the history and culture of this land and its peoples, with Hadassah’s generous leadership. Efforts to heal the trauma of colonization come in many forms. Educating ourselves and being together with the right intentions is one of them.

Admission to the workshop is on a sliding scale, funds will be used to help support Anishinaabe Land Back in Detroit:

• $5 Queer or Trans Black/Indigenous people (or Black and Indigenous people with low income) 

• $10 Straight/Cis-gendered Black/Indigenous people (or QT B/I with money)

• $15 and up everyone else
