OXYGEN ALLEY

The Kirby / Moran entrance to Oxygen Alley in April 2023

  • Air conditioner to cool our neighborhood with shade

  • Air filter to create more oxygen and take pollution out of the air

  • Tree Equity- giving robust tree cover to a neighborhood that lacks it

  • Storm water sponge to keep our property dry

  • A park with benches to enjoy nature’s beauty in every season

  • An enhanced Wildlife habitat

  • An off street walking path

  • An innovation in what neighborhoods can be

  • A celebration of the closing of the Detroit trash incinerator

  • A history lesson about environmental justice

  • Part of a larger green loop making the neighborhood more walkable

  • Remediation and cleanup of a long abused landscape

This project is supported by Great Lakes Environmental Law Center, The City of Detroit’s Neighborhood Development Grant, and the DTE Energy Foundation Tree Planting Program. The design and the content of the signage is developed by neighbors. We are working with numerous amazing volunteers to clean up trash, plant trees and flowers, spread wood chips and leaves.
